WWNLive launches its Roku Channel. One word AWESOME!

wwn-live-620x218

Today is a great day for any fan of WWNLive.com.  A rapidly growing professional wrestling streaming website which started in Florida working with Ring of Honor in its’ early inception to now being a company that streams live events for independent wrestling companies all over the world.

The debut of the WWNLive official ROKU channel (Available on all Roku streaming devices) is upon us. And I am here to tell you that they have not only hit a home run with this but they have crushed the ball into the stratosphere! The ROKU app not only has the complete library of companies such as Dragon Gate USA and Shine, but you can also watch all the Kayfabe Commentaries shoot interviews and in depth interview shows that Kayfabe Commentaries is known for. I also have it on very good authority that you will be able to watch LIVE( that’s right LIVE) IPPV’S on this very app. This is the only ROKU app to my knowledge that has professional wrestling content streaming live from multiple companies.

The app was launched at 9:00 P.M. EST here in America, and let me tell you it is awesome! The first thing I did was go to the Dragongate USA page to watch DGUSA: Untouchable 2012. The show is close to my heart because it was the first professional wrestling show that I ever did camera work for.  I promise you that the fact I worked with DGUSA and WWNLive has not clouded my unbiased opinion on the app itself. The video quality is good and compared to the other wrestling apps on Roku do not suffer from lag or constant loading of content while you are watching said content.

The app did at first have some slowing on the load times but that is to be expected when everyone who knows it is on the stream player hits it all at once. The choice of content is amazing due to the diversity of the content of the app and all of the companies past and present that have come to partner with WWNLive.

My final thoughts on this app are if you are a wrestling fan and don’t have a WWNLive account you should get yourself to the WWNLive website and create an account to avail yourself of everything this app has to offer!

WWNLive Roku App Grade is an A- only reason because it is new and will be growing every day by leaps and bounds!

#UFC179 had everything going for it, except for the judges.

ufc-179-640x360

Last night the UFC invaded Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and for the most part it was a great technical showcase of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Striking, and even the judges score cards. Why was the last one added you ask it is because the Judges were the ones who gave used some what of national pride to determine the outcome and kept the UFC Featherweight Championship of The World, which was without a doubt the worst part of UFC 179.

The reason for my theory is not from an American frame of mind but a fan of the sport and how the match should have been scored. The whole card was great from start to Co-Main Event which makes it all the more disappointing by how the Main Event panned out. This article will be short because you have already read punch by punch story telling by other writers on the internet, and when you have an ending that was soured by judges that needs to addressed and if it was a point or two difference it is definitely a let down for Chad Mendes.

Ladies and Gentlemen My Name Is Paul Heyman review.

my_name_is_paul_heyman_featured_wn_08082014-1024x575

Alright I know what you are thinking “oh way to be behind the times” “This DVD came out two months ago.” Well you are right but I have finally gotten around to purchasing this DVD and watching it and WOW! What a great DVD this is I mean from the actual documentary to the DVD extras are fantastic.

The Documentary itself is a journey into the history of the greatest manager of the past 2 generations Paul Heyman, a man who managed a great list of professional wrestlers much of them were either former or future world heavyweight champions. His story is very interesting and the fact that he came from a family of driven and successful parents who taught him through there actions to be the best at whatever he did. The documentary also finally gives Heyman the opportunity to get his side of the story out on a full and open forum where he could say “Hey this is what I saw, compared to what everyone else has said about me.”

All and all this documentary is another home run hit by WWE, I was very impressed and loved to actually see how the WWE would use the footage of Heyman, they killed kudos WWE kudos.

Roman Reigns out of #NightofChampions

ea7ffd6ce86eefee0d9a550a230924cf_crop_north-

Word came down a little over 30 minutes ago that WWE superstar Roman Reigns has undergone an emergency procedure for what doctors are calling an incarcerated hernia while promoting the upcoming WWE pay-per-view Night of Champions which is a little over 24 hours from the time this story is being posted.

Reports are that his recovery will be evaluated by WWE doctors and that Reigns is officially out of tomorrow nights pay-per-view, which is a blow to the show itself because this angle between the former members of the Shield and the authority has been the bright spot of the WWE.

There will be more on this stick to That Combat Sports Guy for more on this as the story develops.

#UFC177 exceeds expectations Ten fold.

UFC_177_Dillashaw_vs_Soto_poster.0_standard_730.0

T.J. Dillashaw and Joe Soto the main event in UFC 177

Last night the Ultimate Fighting Championship held without a doubt its’ most unexpected cards to date. This card was riddled with road block after road block and still the UFC and its fighters proved why they are truly the top dogs in the fight game.

The main event was reshuffled due to an injury of Renan Barao that happened just a day before the fight and was saved by a man making his UFC Bantamweight debut in Joe Soto as he took on incumbent T.J. Dillashaw who was set and prepped to defend his 135 lbs. crown again Barao in a rematch from UFC 173. I would also like to congratulate Joe Soto on his performance against T.J. because he showed he could hang with the big boys and could be a threat in the Bantamweight division for years to come.

This card was considered “cursed” by many and the argument could be made for that but the fighters on this card were definitely out to exorcise those demons from the Sleep Train Arena and did they ever get rid of the demons from this card. The night was punctuated by four epic KOs, two submissions, and two fights going to the judges score cards. These fights were not only entertaining but were great examples of all facets of sport of Mixed Martial Arts.

For all the hardships the card for UFC 177 had not only did the company and its fighters stepped up and like Babe Ruth in the 1932 World Series called their shot and knocked it out of the park!

#WWE rounds up, lays off and hits a landmark.

wwe-logo-1405871769

On the day that WWE announces a second quarter net loss of 14.5 million dollars the company announces that they are laying off 10 percent of it’s work force and is expanding into the international television market with the WWE network for the next 10 years as they pen a landmark deal with Rogers Communications which will make the network a pay TV channel on the communications giants cable empire.

The WWE network has not started without its share of follies with the first day roll out having player issues almost instantaneously and other issues that have been vocalized on various social media outlets and news websites. This is not the big news of what is now the ultimate professional wrestling channel on various forms of video playing equipment, the big news came today when Rogers Communications in Canada announced they are going to provide the network as a pay channel on its cable systems beginning August 12, 2014 which could make up for the 14.5 million that the “sports entertainment” juggernaut lost in the second financial quarter of this year.

All this news today is not really a surprise to this journalist because with small gains comes large loss, I am confident that this amazing service will begin the long journey upward to a fantastic library of Pay Per Views, Documentaries, and Classic content that all professional wrestling fans clamber for on a regular basis.

If you like what you have read share this, talk about it, and feel free to tell me what you think.

Nick Diaz to feel Anderson Silvas wrath in January.

Diaz-vs-Silva

It was announced on ESPN this week that arguably the greatest fighter of all time Anderson “The Spider” Silva will be returning at the exact end of January 2015 to fight the now un-retired Nick Diaz in a five round main event in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This fight comes as no surprise due to the nature of both men who are great fighters in their own right but I must say in this instance all this will be is a glorified sparing session for the longest reigning champion in UFC history. Even though both of these gentlemen left the sport in 2013 in their own odd ways Diaz leaving on his own accord and Silva who is the former UFC Middleweight Champion was forced out of competition via a nasty leg injury during his championship rematch against current champion Chris Weidman.

This undoubtedly will be one of these gentlemens last fight without a doubt this fight will be the standard on which the all fights of 2015 will be judged on.

I like most people will be glued to our televisions on January 31, 2015 to see the return of these two titans of the octagon and when that final horn or punch is thrown the anticipation will be palpable.

Ring of Honor #BITW review.

I know this may come a little late but hey what better time than now to give my thoughts on what I consider a very nice step in the right direction for the little organization that can Ring of Honor Wrestling and it’s first full length pay per view event “Best In The World.”

Lets begin with the production value of the show being in the media, a former camera man, and broadcasting school graduate production value is very high on my list of priorities and “Best in The World” delivered in aces and spades. The camera men and producers of the matches should receive a raise and promotion for how amazing the camera angles were and how crazy the quality of the way it was via the fantastic camera angles.

The finishes that were booked for the blow offs in each angle was superb with not only each match (obvious statement here) being put together beautifully by the workers themselves, but again going back to the production value the team that shot and framed the show helped put over the drama that the wrestlers were trying to tell.

My review of this show is a 4/5 star. The video quality could have been a lot better but thinking of the companies style and what they are about I really can’t complain that much non the less it was a great time and worth every penny that I paid.

#UFC174 was not a bar fight, rather a technical showcase.

ufc174_300x250.0_standard_730.0

UFC 174 took place in Vancouver, Canada last night and I know the so called hardcore Mixed Martial Arts “fan” was disappointed by the lack of brutality on the main card. Not only was last night probably the most technically sound and mentally satisfying Pay-Per-View I have seen since I began really following the sport big time.

There were a few surprises on the Pay-Per-Views main card which were either complete surprises or just straight up oh my god did that just happened. The biggest surprise happened early on in the event during the Ovince St. Preux v.s. Ryan Jimmo where Ryan Jimmo apparently broke his arm at some point in the match and had to verbally submit to St. Preux after being put into a kimura arm bar.

The second surprise albeit looking back on the fight itself was not so shocking looking at who had the least amount of damage was Andrei Arlovski who had not been in the UFC since 2008 came back in full force against Brendan Schaub where he ended up what looked like breaking Schaubs’ jaw which helped Arlovski to win the match by split decision.

Ryan Bader conquered his opponent for 3 rounds just without a doubt dominated every aspect which as you will see has been a  large theme in this show that was put on by the UFC. Ryan Bader was given the decision unanimously by the judges after the final  horn had sounded and rightly so.

Lets now focus on the co-main event of the evening where Rory MacDonald put on what can only be described as a complete and utter clinic in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts taking on a glorified sparing partner in Tyron  Woodley. Woodley never stood a chance MacDonald dominated the entire fight showing great aptitude in both striking ground game and the ability to control the pace of a fight, though Woodley had a great effort he just could not stop the 170 pound juggernaut known as Rory MacDonald.

The main event of the evening was the same as the co-main event with the World Flyweight Championship was on the line and again another clinic that was put on by incumbent  Demetrius “Mighty Mouse” Johnson took on the Russian Ali Bagautinov this match was so one sided that it ended with a unanimous decision. Johnson had just sound fundamentals that for a flyweight is truly unheard of because when you look at the other form of combat that implements a flyweight system in boxing only has what looks like two skinny people fighting over a steak, these gentlemen showed that they can hold their own and be technically proficient in every aspect of Mixed Martial Arts.
