The UFC is where the elite of the toughest of the tough come to show what they bring to the table and last night was no different. The stage was set after all the pomp and circumstance was over the two men Robbie Lawler and former interim champion Johnny Hendricks set out to prove who really deserved the title. The 1st round was nothing short of intense Lawler took the opening shots and Hendricks with all the heart in the world fought valiantly. In this reporters opinion due to aggression Hendricks took the first round handily. The second round Hendricks kept his momentum going with an offensive flurry that would have made any striking enthusiast happy, while Lawler did get a great deal in while smiling like the butcher’s dog on scrap day the second round went again to Hendricks. While those two rounds I just spoke of went the way of Mr. Hendricks the third and fourth round were to put it in a TV perspective the Robbie Lawler show, while Hendricks showed that he has a world-class jaw and stamina the strikes and all around dominance went to Lawler handily. Now we come to the fifth and final round of the fight both men looked very hungry for that 12 pounds of gold that the sport is predicated on. The old west shootout that the UFC brought to Dallas was definitely alive and well, it was a slug fest that the fans of this sport live for. Both men came out legitimately guns a blazing and taking every chance they could Lawler had many chances to finish the fight but in this round he looked noticeably out of steam towards the tail end of the fight and Hendricks saw this and at about the 1:30 mark of the fight took down Lawler and essentially finished the fight on the ground. It is this reporters opinion that Lawler was leading the round going into the final two minutes but gassed himself out of contention. After the fight both men looked like they had been in the worst brutal fight they have ever been in and the judges were to ones who decided this one and they chose right giving Johnny Hendricks his dream and earning him the UFC Welterweight Championship by unanimous decision. UFC always delivers high impact action and heart pounding emotion in every fight I can not wait till the next show because I know all my hard-earned money will be worth spending on everything they do!
